The Maze Runner

I am about half way through the Maze Runner and I think it is a really good book so far.  A boy named Thomas finds himself in a box with no memories.  He emerges from this box into a place called the Glade, a strange place where kids show up monthly the same way Thomas did.  Each kid has no memories of their past life and has to learn to accept their new life in the Glade.  Soon, Thomas finds out the terrible truth- that he and everyone else in the Glade are trapped right in the middle of a huge maze.

Thomas is different than most kids in the Glade.  Most kids get super scared and cry for weeks when the enter the Glade, but Thomas, oddly enough, seems familiar with the Glade.  Not to mention the very weird things that have been happening since Thomas arrived.  The day after, a girl arrived in the Glade, which was weird in two reasons- first, normally kids come once a month, and second, they have never seen a girl in the Glade before.  Also, the kids who have gone through the Changing (a vicious process that happens to kids who have been stung by ferocious monsters, called Greivers, that live in the maze) could swear that they saw Thomas while they were going through the grueling process.  This makes people all the more suspicious about Thomas.

On his second or third day in the Glade, Thomas watches as two of his fellow Gladers Alby (the leader) and Minho (the leader of the runners) struggle to make it back to the Glade as the doors out into the maze were closing.  He went into the maze to try and save them but only caught himself in the Maze in the middle of the night.  No one has ever survived a night in the maze because the Greivers killed them.  However, with Alby stung by them, Thomas and Minho outsmart the monsters and survive the night.  The Gladers' suspicion about Thomas just grew with this experience, and now what will happen to him?  This book is great so far and I am looking forward to the end.  Enjoy the last few days of your summer while they last!
