Knowledge- The Necromancer by Michael Scott

Knowledge

Knowledge is power.  That is the famous saying that reverberates through our minds whenever we have the opportunity to learn.  Knowledge is what carries you through life and opens doors for you.  However, knowledge can also be the downfall of a person.  People can be so eager to learn that they are oblivious to obvious dangers that they face.  Also, if people pursue more knowledge that they need to, they can learn things that are very disturbing and possibly untrue.

In the book The Necromancer by Michael Scott, one of the main characters, Josh, is faced with the decision to gain a lot more knowledge.  However, he is being persuaded by a very powerful manipulator, which makes his mind only focus on knowledge.  This makes him unaware of the danger that faces him.  The manipulator, Doctor John Dee, told Josh that he could learn how to raise the dead, an art called necromancy (the book is fantasy), which would allow him to consult any historic figure on questions and help him gain more knowledge.  He was so focused on this, however, that he wasn’t thinking clearly.  Little did he know, he would summon a very dangerous monster in the process of his learning, which would devour him on the spot.

This is what I mean by knowledge being your downfall.  The hunger for knowledge is so overpowering that it can takes over your mind and makes you not think straight.  I’m not saying knowledge is a bad thing, but people need to focus on other things besides it.  So, knowledge truly is power in everything that you do, but ambition can overpower common sense of you’re not careful.  Overall, The Necromancer by Michael Scott was a great book and I would highly recommend it.  It is the fourth book in its series, and I suggest that you read it from the beginning.
